Kathmandu June 29: The new government of Pakistan led by Imran Khan though inherited some three years ago an almost bankrupt regime but yet has offered a lucrative amount to the government and the people of Nepal in the name of fighting with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hard to believe but yet true.
Hope the money thus donated in the name of the people of Nepal remains “safe”.
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Nepal, Syed Haider Shah, June 29, called upon Dr. Khagraj Baral-the secretary, office of the Prime minister of Nepal.
The Pakistan envoy Haider Shah during the meeting handed over a cheque amounting to more than 43 million Nepali Rupees as a modest financial assistance from the Government of Pakistan.
The amount so assisted by Pakistan is expected to be used to fight the Covid-19 pandemic in Nepal.
The press note issued by the Pakistan embassy, June 29, clearly “stipulates” that the money be used for the benefit of the people of Nepal.
On the occasion, Dr. Baral thanked the Pakistan for contributing generously for prevention, Control and Treatment of Covid-19 pandemic in Nepal.
The financial assistance is part of the Covid-19 Emergency fund for SAARC member countries pledged by the government of Pakistan.
The Pakistan government, it appears, is still hopeful of the resurgence of India killed SAARC regional body.
With Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives on its side, India concludes that SAARC body is dead as it preferred.
Political opponents of the Nepal PM opine that since Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli too is a “recognized” India hand and thus Nepal under Oli is unlikely to make sincere efforts aimed at giving a new lease of life to the India slaughtered SAARC regional organization.
PM Oli is supposed to have been in India’s good book since the Mahakali River Treaty Ratification from the Nepali Parliament in the mid-nineties.
But yet he blows hot and cold against India at times.
To recall, PM Oli had exhibited his “strong nationalist” image during the time of the India imposed economic blockade in the year 2015.
