Mission: peace and Stability in Afghanistan

N. P. Upadhyaya, Kathmandu: The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has hinted, August 20, 2021, that his country (The United Kingdom) would work with the Taliban if necessary, reports Reuters.

The British Prime Minister further said that “What I want to assure people is that our political and diplomatic efforts to find a solution for Afghanistan, working with the Taliban, of course if necessary, will go on”.

The world authorities like Russia, the US, China, and now the United Kingdom has shown its keen interest in working with the Taliban, if necessary, in order to restore peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Peace in Afghanistan is key to political stability in the entire South Asian region.

To recall, China has already made intimate contacts with the Talibani authorities in Tianjin, July 28, 2021.

This is the latest meet of the Chinese with the Taliban (s).

“China keeps in contact and communication with the Afghan Taliban on the basis of fully respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty and the will of all parties in the country and has been playing a constructive role in seeking a political solution to the Afghan issue,” Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokeswoman Hua Chunying said August 17, during a press briefing.

Nick Ching writes for the VOA that in the recent days the U.S. top diplomat Antony Blinken has already spoken with the Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi about the fresh developments in Afghanistan.

The State Department said the two discussed the security situation.

Chinese contact with the Taliban (s) came much ahead of the insurgents taking control of Kabul early last week.

Similarly, the Russians appear to have already made close contacts with the Talibs in Moscow.

This means that Zamir Kabulov has already made intimate contacts with the Talibs.

He met the insurgents much ahead of the Talibs capturing Kabul.

Notably, the Russian special envoy on Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov headed the Russian format of the Troika Plus that comprised of China, Russia, The US and Pakistan.

The Troika Plus met recently in Doha, Qatar.

All in all, the countries that are interested in working with the new Talibani set up in Kabul are Russia, China, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Let’s hope that all these world powers contribute to the institutionalization peace and stability in the South Asian region which has been badly destabilized by the regional Hooligan-India.

India is very much likely to aggravate the already volatile situation in Afghanistan as it is this country, India, that has been completely sidelined in the entire Afghani affairs.

The Sah-Doval-Shankar Troika must have been planning on how to get foothold in the new Afghani set up now controlled by the Talibs.

The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the Taliban victory had once again restored the self-respect of the Afghan people.

“The governments in the West are still grappling with the reality of a Talibani comeback in Afghanistan and are in the process of framing a coherent diplomatic response to the fresh events in Afghanistan.

In the meanwhile, China has hinted that it will work in close collaboration with Pakistan for maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Pakistan is the next door neighbor of Afghanistan.
