Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Wednesday handed over to the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping the invitation letter sent by President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
The Nepali style of building friendship and cementing the already built ties that it was perhaps.
The Nepali dignitary who is on a six-day official visit to the northern neighbor handed over the invitation letter during a courtesy meeting with the Chinese President at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Upon receiving the friendly invitation letter from Nepal the most powerful leader of China and of the world, President Xi gave his positive nod to the Nepali request.
President Xi and Prime Minister held one-on-one talks for half an hour. Similarly, the delegation level talks lasted for 45 minutes.
This event must have increased the blood pressure of some political persona both within and without.
On the occasion, the Chinese President said that China would provide all type of support to Nepal while respecting its sovereignty and integrity.
“China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Nepal in infrastructure connectivity, post-disaster reconstruction, trade and investment within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative”, said President Xi Jinping while greeting Nepal PM Oli on Wednesday.
Assurances from a heavy weight neighbor who commands respect and honor in the globe today.
This means that China feels that Nepal’s sovereignty is being challenged by some in the vicinity.
Such a bold repetition of assurance of China to Nepal reminds the Nepali intellectuals of the era of Marshal Chen Yi who too had made exactly similar comments on Nepal as regards the preservation of Nepali sovereignty if threatened from certain quarters.
Such assurances had been aired by China in the late fifties. Nepal was then being ruled by King Mahendra.
Stating that cooperation would be forthcoming from China for Nepal’s development, President Xi said that they were ready to take forward the bilateral relations on a new basis.
“China has always been respecting Nepal as a good neighbor”, opined President Xi.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various matters pertaining to bilateral relations and on ways and means to further expanding bilateral cooperation in various fields including through cross border railway connectivity.
Most importantly, President Xi congratulated the Government of Nepal for achieving political stability and outlining economic development priorities and assured China’s full support and cooperation in realizing Nepal’s development goals.
Once again in response, PM Oli extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Xi for the successful conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2017 as well as of the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in 2018.
In addition, PM Oli said that Nepal has been enjoying all sorts of helps from a good neighbor, China, and that Nepal would always work together with China for the economic development and prosperity of the country.
Stating that Nepal has ever remained sincere to the ‘one China’ policy, PM Oli further said “Nepal wanted to be benefited from the development achieved by China in the economic and technology sectors”.
Prime Minister Oli in the meantime congratulated President Xi on his election as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.
President Xi, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other senior Chinese government officials participated in the talks.
Before meeting the Chinese President, PM Oli paid homage to the leader of the Chinese Revolution, the late Mao Tse-tung at his statue. On the occasion a contingent of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army presented a guard of honor to PM Oli.

Chairman Mao was a great friend of Nepal. Later paramount leader Deng also possessed high regards for Nepal and its leaders who had been ruling the country then.
Oli had embarked on China visit on Tuesday at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Chinese State Council, Li Keqiang.
On the second day of PM Oli’s visit to China, Nepal and China on Wednesday signed eight agreements worth .
4 billion.
These agreements were reached between the two governments and private sectors where Chinese investors will pour money on developing hydroelectricity, water resources, cement factories and fruit cultivation and farming.
The signing ceremony took place at the Nepal Embassy here.
Lila Mani Poudel is Nepal’s Ambassador to China.
Additional memorandum of understandings will be signed tomorrow after the delegation-level talks between Oli and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang takes place, it has been reported.
This is Oli’s first official visit to China after returning to power in February this year.
PM Oli commands a very strong government in Nepal.
This is his second foreign trip after India. PM OLi was in China in 2016 after the great earthquake that had rocked Nepal on April 25, 2015.
China has shut the bad mouth of some perverted brains back in Nepal and in the South who had been making false claim that it was now Nepal’s turn to fall in the Chinese debt trap. And, to India’s repeated “tough” reminders to Nepal that it will not buy any electricity generated from China’s hydroelectric projects, the northern neighbor has already assured Nepal that it will bring into use sophisticated technology to import electricity generated in Nepal to Tibet without any leakage.
