China not a reliable friend of Nepal

Kathmandu: Declared expansionist and the former British colony, the present day Republic of India, born 1947 has opened a new route to Mansorabar in Tibet, China via Nepali soil in Darchula, reports the People’s Review weekly dated May 8/2020.

The Indian defense minister Rajnath Singh, one of Prime Minister Modi’s-Hindutva team member, through a video conference on Friday inaugurated the link-road via Dharchula-Lipulekh, says the weekly.

India has opened road to Lippulekh in Darchula from Pithauragadh in Dharchula, UP, India.

Prof. Dr Narendra Raj Khanal said that the road passes through Nepali soil, which is against the Sugauli Treaty signed in 1816.

Khanal said that Gunji, Gabryang, Kutyangdi are the Nepali territory as per the Sugauli Treaty.

Notably, India and China had already signed “secretly” an agreement in May 2015 which allowed the two countries to enhance their bilateral trade through Lipulekh-a land that solely belongs to Nepal.

It was the time when India had imposed economic blockade on Nepal.

While signing this agreement, both India and China ignored Nepal’s official consent.

This perhaps makes the very intent of China clear.

As of India, the inner motive has been to annex Nepal once and for all a la Sikkim.

And now the road to Mansarobar Lake via the Nepali territory and that too without taking Nepali government into confidence compels the observers to question as to whether China still is a reliable partner of Nepal?

China could have told India to take Nepal into confidence but it didn’t. The Chinese motive is also not that encouraging for Nepal.

In the mean while, Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani, the former Foreign Minister of Nepal is learnt to have questioned as to whether India consulted Nepal prior to opening of this route to Mansarovar Lake via Nepal or simply ignored this sovereign country as is its habit?

Dr. Lohani asks as to why Nepal government is silent on such a grave issue that was very much associated with “national sovereignty”.

Is China still a reliable country for Nepal? Certainly not.
