Indian Academician laments on growing Chinese Influence in Nepal

Democratic system demands the presence of strong opposition to which Nepal lacks at the moment.

The Nepali Congress that claims itself to have been a party synonymous to democracy remains in a somewhat battered position.

The last debacle which the party have had to embrace after the parliamentary polls has made the Nepali Congress even weaker in that the party has remained the hostage of various groups and sub-groups which is what has been threatening the very existence of this party, supposedly the numero uno democratic party of Nepal.

Frankly speaking, the NC is no match to the ruling unified communist party of Nepal that has freshly taken a formal shape when the two communists’ parties, the UML and the Delhi nursed and sheltered Maoists center (enjoying the BJP and the Indian Congress government tacit support clandestinely which no longer remains a secret), vowed to forge unification of the two and as a result of such a unification, the election results went in its favor in a dramatic way.

That the Maoists were enjoying Indian government’s support while being in Delhi and later sent to Nepal to grab the power to benefit the Indian interests as and when demanded by the regime which provided the shelter has been freshly admitted by Brahma Chellany in his write up.

Chellany writes only when he is dictated, at least this is what is believed here in Nepal. His fresh article hints that the Indian regime is in a mood to unite the entire democratic forces together with the overthrown Nepali Monarchy so that such a united force could match with the China close Communist parties ruling the Himalayan nation at the moment.

India now feels that Nepal has already gone into the fold of the Chinese regime which is perhaps very close to the truth. But why Nepal preferred to side with China? Indian leaders must ponder over this question to which Chellany perhaps hints through his fresh article.

For the first time Chellany acknowledges that Nepal’s monarchy had remained as a symbol of unity among the population for over two centuries.

Chellany blames Dr. Man Mohan Singh’s government which remained instrumental in assisting the Maoists to grab power in Nepal back then in 2005-6.

To put it mildly, the NC has tentatively lost its former credibility and popularity among the people, more so among its voters, who think that the NC has already become a sinking horse and thus should be rejected once and for all.

NC in fact damaged its political credentials when the party exhibited its visible leaning towards the Indian establishment and preferred not to irritate the Indian regime by speaking against a regime that imposed economic blockade on Nepal for all along six months close on the heels of an earthquake of almost eight on the Richter scale.

Disgusting that it was.

Though NC is a political party that has ever remained friendly to the Indian regime born, 1947 and thus nothing to lament about.
And it is these shortcomings that have been very cleverly exploited by the Communist veteran, KPS Oli, the incumbent Prime Minister of Nepal who sided with China at time of the Indian blockade.

Thus PM Oli’s visible tilt towards President Xi’s China is Nepal’s compulsion rather than the choice.

And a clever President Xi Jinping is benefiting from the Indian losses in Nepal.

However, the President of the NC, Sher Bahadur Deuba has freshly realized that the presence of various factions in the party has been weakening the party and thus has vowed to regain the old status of the NC by doing away with the presence of groups and sub-groups from the party paraphernalia.

Speaking to the local Press Union in Mantahali, Ramechaap district, Sher Bahadur Deuba on July 7, 2018, said that he will do all he can to regain the lost strength of the NC which could match with that of the Unified Communists now ruling the nation.

Says Deuba, that looking at the functioning style of the present government, it appears that soon the nation will have to embrace a one party dictatorial regime and that the NC would frustrate the very ill motives of this government come what may.

“In a democracy, the voices of opposition needs to be heard”, said Deuba vowing that he will soon initiate a campaign against the government which has been neglecting the genuine voices of the people.

“You can’t prohibit people from airing their grievances”, said an angry NC President Mr. Deuba.

Deuba made a joke of the China locomotive entering in Nepal by saying that “let the government be allowed to keep itself engaged in day dreaming exercise”.

He also accused PM Oli to have exhibited total submission in its dealings with India, so writes Sambad Dabali.
