Nepal has always been the loser. The people here were duped by their own government that practically submitted itself to the mercy of the Indian PM Modi for fear of being imposed yet another economic blockade.
The Communist regime in Nepal under KP Oli behaved during the Indian PM Modi’s visit to Nepal as if the receiving nation were an Indian protectorate a la baby Bhutan which left no stone unturned to exhibit that Nepal was tentatively a province of the Republic of India, born 1947.
That it was one as stated above became all the more clear the moment the Chief Minister of the Province number two, Mr. Lal Babu Raut was freely allowed to ventilate his ire against his own nation who begged from the visiting Indian PM to intervene in Nepal’s internal politics and tame the Central Government in Kathmandu in order to do away with the discriminatory practices adopted by the regime as against the people of the Nepal’s Madhesh.
CM Raut in effect preferred direct intervention of Delhi in Nepali matters and correct the aberrations that have done more harm than good to the population residing in Terai-Madhesh.
Raut claims that the Constitution now in force in Nepal is discriminatory in nature and content which has curbed the rights of the people who reside in Madhesh. He needed urgent helps perhaps from PM Modi to correct the Nepali constitutional aberrations and tailor it to suit the aspirations of the Madheshi population.
At least this was his demand as much as one could get from his fiery speech made that day while receiving PM Modi in Janakpur.
PM Modi though did not take Raut’s appeal seriously, however, a section of the intelligent observers in Nepal suspect that all that CM Raut spoke may have the early consent of the visiting Indian PM Modi through his stooges posted in Nepal, more so in Janakpur, having close rapport with CM Raut.
The question thus is: is the provincial government free to make such dangerous statements and is even free to beg foreign direct intervention(s) in sorting out matters that are internal ones? If not then why the Foreign Ministry in Kathmandu allowed Mr. Raut to speak on his own even on issues that are strictly forbidden? Why the men in the foreign ministry ignored the text of the CM Raut before he read it out in front of the foreign guest who is known (rather is exposed) for his tilt towards Madhesh that perhaps prepared the needed background for the imposition of an economic blockade in the year 2015?
This remains no longer a secret now.
The central government must go deep into the matter as to how and why CM Raut dared to do so and spoke the worst? And which force on earth encouraged him to speak so which must not have been spoken?
Though the joint statement issued after the conclusion of the Indian PM Modi’s two day Nepal visit talks high of the trip and assures the Nepali population that Nepal-India relations has taken a new height, however, the manner the KP Oli government appeared submitting itself to each and every wishes and preferences of the visiting guest compels one to think that Nepal once again has remained as the loser and India gained whatever she wanted from Nepal.
Clever India duped Nepal once again.
Water resources experts’ back home claim that Nepal has once again been cheated by India on Arun-3 much the same way as had been the case while signing the Mahakali Treaty some two decades back.
Interestingly, it was the same KP Sharma Oli who exhibited his extra interest in the ratification of the Mahakali Treaty from the Nepali parliament then and now the same persona as Nepal PM has handed over the River Arun to the mercy of the Indian establishment.
That awarding of the Arun three project to India was not a good decision has best been marked by the grand “absence” of the “energy minister” Barsa man Pun from the main event when the two Prime Ministers pressed the button simultaneously and inaugurated the commissioning of the said project.
Should this mean that the Maoists partnering the Oli’s UML coalition were not in favor of awarding Arun-3 to India?
But the Nepal Maoists during the People’s war were treated and greeted by the then BJP Indian establishment as their special guests and had been awarded shelter in Delhi, India wherein the Maoists resided almost for a decade or so.
PM Modi did not apologize for his notoriety for having imposed economic blockade on Nepal, as the domestic population had expected. And why should Modi apologize? When there is a pro-India government in Nepal which PM Oli has proved both in words and deeds.
The excessive India tilt exhibited by PM Oli must be balanced by visiting China at the earliest. And PM Oli has very recently declared that he will adopt a balanced policy as regards the immediate neighbors.
Reports have it that PM Oli is soon to visit China, however, the dates have not yet been confirmed, say Nepal’s foreign Ministry sources.
Chinese sources claim that three Indian spies were detected loitering along the Nepali side of the border adjoining China in the recent weeks. These Indian spies, analysts have been told, already served in Nepal as Indian Ambassadors at different intervals of time.
