Biratnagar/Kathmandu: A climbing team from the Hiroshima Branch of the Japanese Alpine Club, who were challenging Ama Dablam (6,856m), along with their agent, Mr. Udaya Gartaula, paid recently a courtesy call on Ambassador Kikuta.
His Excellency Kikuta is the Ambassador of Japan to the Court of Nepal.
They are ( the climbing team) the second team to successfully summit Ama Dablam this season.
Ambassador Kikuta heartily congratulated their achievement, saying it was a result of the teamwork of all, including Nepali agent and Sherpas.
The Hiroshima Branch of the Japanese Alpine Club organized the Ama Dablam climbing party to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its founding this year.
For the three members of the team (Mr. OTA yutaka, Mr. Ono Masaki, and Mr. HARA Shunsuke) other than the leader Mr.
YOSHIMURA Chiharu, it was their first time to climb overseas and their first time to climb up to 6,000m class.
The highest mountain in Japan is Mt. Fuji (3776m), so it was a challenge for them to climb a mountain about 3,000m higher.
Three members of the team made the summit push, with Mr.
Hara successfully reaching the summit, and the other two were just one step away (6,750m), it is learnt.
“We welcome the safe return of the Japanese climbing team to Kathmandu and look forward to the day when they will challenge the mountains of Nepal again”, so says a press release issued by the Japan Embassy in Kathmandu.
Congratulations to the team of climbers from friendly Japan: Ed. Upadhyaya.
