Biratnagar/Islamabad: The Embassy of Nepal in Pakistan organized a programme to commemorate the 70th anniversary of first ascent to the Mount Everest and International Mt. Everest Day-2023 in the august presence of the Everest Summiteers, the alpinists, media persons and friends of Nepal in Islamabad, June 14, 2023, says a press release issued by Nepal’s Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
On the occasion, the Ambassador of Nepal Mr. Tapas Adhikari highlighted the importance of the day which opened a new avenue in mountaineering field and thousands of mountaineers have climbed the Everest since 29 May 1953.
Ambassador Adhikari also highlighted the Government of Nepal policy, programme, and strategy to promote mountaineering and adventure tourism in Nepal.
At the beginning, the distinguished Nepali envoy welcomed the Everest Summiteers and congratulated Ms.
Naila Kiyani and Sajid Ali Sadpara on their recent ascent to the Mt.
Everest and hoped that they will continue their endeavors in mountaineering and expedition.
He also noted with high appreciation the Sherpa’s contribution to the mountaineering and that they were expert, reliable and helpful which indeed made them very special in mountaineering and more so without their support it may be difficult to scale any mountain in the world.
The Sherpas are soft power of Nepal and Nepal is proud of their contributions that they have made already to Nepal particularly in the mountaineering field.
During the programme, envoy Adhikari handed over certificates to Ms. Naila Kiyani and Mr. Sajid Ali Sadpara on their recent ascent to the Mt. Everest issued by the Department of Tourism.
At the programme, Mr. Mingma G. Shepa, Dawa Sherpa, Mr. Sarbaz Khan, Ms. Kiyani, Mr. Sadpara had spoken and shared their experiences while mountaineering in Nepal and thanked the Government and the people of Nepal for their support in their mountaineering endeavors.
Telegraph adds: The Gulf News dated June 13, reports the event organized by Ambassador Adhikari and says in part, “Attending a reception at Ambassador of Nepal’s Tapas Adhikari’s residence to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest ( 1953) Naila Kiani said that she was grateful to the Nepalese authorities for their hospitality and for providing the much-needed support during her Mount Everest expedition .
Talking high of the Nepali Sherpas, Naila KIani said that indeed the Nepali Sherpas, people from the mountaineering sector and general public are well aware and better equipped and my team has found them truly professional”.
The Gulf News further reports that Sajid Ali Sadpara and Sirbaz Khan , Pakistan’s two renowned mountaineers who also scaled Mount Everest in May this year were also present on the occasion organized by Ambassador Adhikari.
