Kathmandu: On November 29, the Nepal JSPS Alumni Association (NJAA), hosted its 7th Symposium.
On the occasion, the Ambassador of Japan in Nepal, Kikuta gave remarks referring to foundation of JSPS, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in 1932 with an imperial endowment.
He shared his experience in the negotiations of CTBT, the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, in Geneva, and stressed the importance of science used in the International Monitoring System (IMS), which is a by-product of the treaty, based on the seismology technology developed by a Japanese scientist.
He also welcomed to see Japan’s endeavor for science and technology rooting in Nepal by the enthusiasm of NJAA.
Dr. Sunil Babu Shrestha, Vice Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), who studied in Japan with the support of Japanese government, mentioned to the cooperation between NAST and Kyushu Institute of Technology.
He also stated that space technology could be used for earthquake research and sustainable development in Nepal.
As you know, the first eight Nepali students were dispatched to Japan for their study in1902.
During the long friendly decades, Japan has extended its assistance to Nepal for her development including technical cooperation on education.
JSPS Fellowship Program is one of them.
