Biratnagar/Kathmandu: The 49th Annual Function of JAAN (JICA Alumni Association of Nepal) was held in Kathmandu on March 11, 2023.
Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Kikuta attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
On the occasion, Ambassador Kikuta mentioned that the year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of JAAN, which was established in 1973, and in its long history, JAAN has greatly contributed to the closer relations between Japan and Nepal.
Ambassador Kikuta stated that March 11 was an unforgettable day for Japan, which experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake on this exact day 12 years ago. ”At the time of the disaster, JAAN and Nepal gave us generous donations and a number of blankets, which not only helped the victims of the earthquake but also touched the heart of the Japanese people.” said the Ambassador.
We believe that JAAN will play an increasingly important role in Nepal as the country targets for further socio-economic development towards graduation from LDC status in 2026, the year that which coincidentally marks the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
