Kathmandu: During a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the US President Joe Biden promised to provide Ukraine with the Patriot missile defense system.
Following their meeting on Wednesday this week, Biden and Zelenskyy held a joint news conference.
Biden said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will soon realize he cannot win the war against Ukraine, and Zelenskyy will decide how to end the conflict at that point.
He emphasized the significance of maintaining support for Ukraine.
Biden announced the Patriot missile defense system and nearly 1.9 billion dollars in military assistance for Ukraine.
One of the most advanced US air defense systems is regarded as the Patriot. As Russian forces intensify their attacks on Ukraine’s power facilities, it would strengthen the country’s air defenses.
Biden emphasized that the Patriot system is defensive rather than escalatory, despite Russia’s objections to its transfer as provocative.
President Zelenskyy acknowledged the power and global influence of US leadership and expressed gratitude to the nation for its assistance.
He stated that he believes that bicameral and bipartisan support will continue despite any changes in the composition of Congress.
As a result of the midterm elections held last month, the Republicans are expected to gain control of the House of Representatives in January.
Zelenskyy reaffirmed the government’s determination to weather the winter and defend Ukrainians from Russian aggression.
