Nepal’s Venezuelan idiocy continues!

NP Upadhyaya, Kathmandu: The whole world is laughing at the Nepali population perhaps for producing a bunch of idiots who have failed miserably to run their own country but prefer to poke their nose in critical international affairs. Our leaders are sharply divided over the far flung Venezuelan matters.

If some widely acclaimed idiots are with ‘Prachanda’ the declared Delhi man, for denouncing the United States for interfering in the internal affairs of this Bolivarian country then there are some seasoned idiots who claim that Nepal must not have spoken anything “hard” on this issue because Nepal doesn’t have any direct political linkages with this distant country.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka ‘Prachanda’ co-chairs the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) along with Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli.

The idiots overwhelm the political circuit.

However, some matured career diplomats see that Prachanda’s statement was a timely one but differ on his choice of words.

“The statement could have been made a mild one”, claim a retired diplomat talking to a television channel recently.

The expert claimed that the statement could have been slightly softened because of Nepal’s historically friendly tries with the United States of America.

The remaining idiots however believe that Prachanda and the government both have “slipped” while issuing their statements on Venezuelan crisis.

In this series of idiocy, the crisis deepens.

Very interestingly, in the meantime Prime Minister Oli had a one on one meet with the US Ambassador Randy Berry and apparently tried to convince him by even claiming “not to take Prachanda’s statement in a serious manner”.

Hardly had a day passed, Dahal rebuked Prime Minister Oli’s claim.

Interestingly, fight continues to prove who in effect had slipped? The fight is to prove who is the top idiot?

Thus, the stage is set for a much awaited vertical split of the party of the radical communists.

To recall, the US was one of the first countries in the globe to have declared the India trained Maoists of Nepal- who were creating rampage in the country as “terrorists”.

The Venezuelan episode is being taken as the first faux pas of the Communist headed majority government, in maintaining a balanced foreign policy in line with the notions of Non Alignment.

In the past however, statements issued by Nepal government on any foreign policy matter used to be taken as exemplary ones in that the people and the countries around the world believed in Nepal’s diplomatic acumen and thus Nepal’s statements were honored with respect and honor.

Even during the cold War time, Nepal was perhaps a single country that enjoyed intimate ties with both the rival super powers, the US and the USSR.

The diplomatic acumen of the country was simply superb.

Under pressure, Prachanda’s previous statement was later modified to please the United States and in doing so, the entire text was changed to the liking of the US.

Perhaps this is Nepal’s first diplomatic defeat since it became part of the Non Alignment movement in the mid-fifties.

Still, the US Ambassador Randy Berry preferred to exhibit his “displeasure” by not attending a diplomatic meet organized by Nepal’s Foreign Ministry.

The Prime Minister was also present on the occasion. The meet was attended by Ambassador Berry’s deputy.

This clearly meant that the US took Prachanda’s statement as a direct affront.

As if the drama had not ended, Prachanda roared in Chitwan district few hours later “I remain undeterred on what my statement read and that I reiterate my previous stand on Venezuelan affairs with full force”.

“I stick to what I said on Venezuela through the statement issued by the party’s Secretariat” is what Prachanda stressed yesterday.

Prachanda is not that fool not to understand as to what may have transpired between PM Oli and the US Ambassador.

Prachanda is the one who had played hide and seek with the point men of the Indian politics.

Now with this new political development, Ambassador Berry must have been in a fix as to how to convince Washington on Nepal and its stance on Venezuela.

Back home, duplicity of Nepali communists is such that while they avoid making any statements against India’s brazen effort to continue occupy Nepali lands from Darchula to Ilam, but issuing a statement against United States’s role on Venezuelan affairs becomes a matter of prestige.

To complicate the issue further, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday evening, told the government-controlled Nepal Television that there was no urgency for Prachanda to make such a statement “at a time when I was abroad and was scheduled to land home within hours”.

“Such a statement would not have been made if I were here,” he added.

PM Oli’s fresh comment made against Prachanda is sure to jolt the entire Communist Party whose tremors could also be felt in the Oli led government. The Nepali Congress has abundant reasons to smile.

The vertical split appears imminent. Prachanda has already initiated the move. Let’s see what is in the store?

What a slip?
