Nepal PM says India serious over reconstruction of Koshi Dam

Nepal’s Prime Minster Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that during his fresh trip to New Delhi to attend the BIMSTEC meeting, he held intensive dialogue with the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh.

This, the prime minister informed while speaking at the Constituent Assembly meeting on Monday November 17, 2008.

The Prime Minister did so only after being criticized by some CA members at the CA meeting held on Sunday, November 16, 2008.

The CA members mainly criticized the prime minister for ignoring the CA assembly that he did by not informed the purpose and the political gains of his visit to New Delhi.

Nevertheless, the PM speaking at the CA said that during his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, he told Dr. Man Mohan Singh to accord the reconstitution of the Koshi Dam issue in top priority.

“The Indian prime minister assured me that the Indian government was looking into the matter very seriously”, said Prachanda.

“Issues like, increasing Indian investment in Nepal’s Water Resources, curbing criminal activities at the Nepal India porous border were discussed and the Indian side also committed itself to implement the agreements reached during my last visit to India”, said the Prime Minister.

“My proposal to declare Nepal a regional Tourism Hub was also accepted by the BIMSTEC member states”, told the PM.

“Controlling regional terrorism, Socio-Economic development, Environmental protection and Climate changes were the major issues discussed at the BIMSTEC meeting,” PM concluded.
