High Level task force for garbage management: PM Nepal

TGW

Nepal’s Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has asked the security agencies in Kathmandu to help dispose garbage that has been lying in the streets of the capital for almost two weeks or so after the locals in Okharpauwa VDC of Nuwakot disrupted the Garbage Vehicles from entering into the Landfill site located in the said VDC.

Prime Minister had summoned representatives of Kathmandu and Lalitpur Municipality Corporation, Security heads, representatives of Ministry of Health, Home Affairs and Local Administration at his official chamber in Singh Durbar and served threat loaded instructions.

Garbage disposal had resumed briefly on Friday, July 31, 2009, after the government representatives reached an agreement with the representatives of Sisdole Waste Management Concern Committee (SWMCC) however, some locals in the areas disrupted the movement of garbage vehicles for reason unknown.

Home Minister Mr. Bhim Rawal was also present at the meeting.

“The Prime Minister expressed his anger with the concerned authorities for not being able to address the garbage problems”.

He said that now that foreigners have also begun taking interests, it has indeed become a matter of utter shame and a serious threat to the health of Kathmandu population.

“If you can not do the job then do not take the responsibility”, a furious looking Prime Minister told the attendants.

Prime Minister told the meeting that a high level task-force will be formed to address the frequently emerging issue of Kathmandu Valley Garbage Management.
