Indian PM meets ex-Nepal PM Deuba, Indian support to continue

TGW

Nepal’s former Prime Minister and a senior Nepali Congress leader of the Mahakali negative fame, Mr. Sher Bahadur Deuba, met with the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh, October 15, 2009 in New Delhi.

Reports quote NC sources as saying that the two leaders discussed the state of Nepal’s peace process and the constitution drafting process.

Dr. Singh assured Mr. Deuba that India will continue to support Nepal’s peace initiatives and development endeavors.

But would that be free of cost? The Indian Prime Minister, however, did not reveal.

Deuba also met with Pranab Mukherjee-Finance Minister, S.M. Krishna- Foreign Minister, P. Chidambaram-Home Minister and main opposition leader Mr. Lal Krishna Advani.

However, Deuba’s meeting with the Indian National Security advisor M. K. Narayanan holds significance in the wake of India’s growing concern over the open invitation extended to China by Nepal’s Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal wherein he “appealed” China to extend Beijing-Lhasa railway links up to Nepal border.

Mr. Deuba also met with Nirupama Rao, the Indian foreign Secretary.

Deuba will return to Kathmandu, Saturday October 17, 2009.

Analysts’ here presume that with the visible penetration of China in Nepal’s politics of late, the perplexed Indian regime is inviting those Nepali leaders to New Delhi who have a clear India bend.

The reason is thus understandable.
