Koirala-Dahal meet, Dahal firm in party’s stand

TGW

The Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala has urged Chairman of the Unified Maoists’ Party Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal to unlock the Parliamentary deadlock and create an atmosphere for the government to approve the new Fiscal Budget.

The Maoists’ party has been halting the Parliamentary proceeding since July 7, 2009.

The meeting between the two leaders took place at the Koirala residence in Maharajgunj, November 2, 2009.

However, say reports Dahal’s response was as clear as crystal.

“First, the President should correct his unconstitutional move ....the ruling parties must agree to mention the unconstitutional move of the President in the common resolution proposal else we will continue with our protest programs”, Dahal is quoted by Koirala family insiders as saying.

Koirala had also requested Dahal to withdraw the agitation and coordinate in constituting high level government steering body.

Dahal made it clear that the rigidity shown by the NC and the UML towards the Maoists demand for holding debate over the unconstitutional move of the President in the parliament was totally undemocratic.

The meeting between the two lasted for half an hour.

During the meeting, it was also agreed that the top leaders of all three parties, Nepali Congress, United Marxist Leninists and Unified Maoists will meet for dinner today, November 3, 2009 at the personal residence of UML leader K.P. Sharma Oli to resolve dispute.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is also expected to be present at the dinner.

Dahal after meeting Koirala arrived at his party headquarters located in Parisdanda of Koteshwor, Kathmandu.

Reports add, “At the party headquarters Mr. Dahal briefed vice chairmen Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya Kiran, General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa and leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara of his fresh talks with the NC President Koirala.”

Political polarization is not there as yet. To remind you, the Maoists have come only after a people’s war but not the rest of the political parties. It could be this factor which may have brought or to come to surface certain differences with the Maoists over some political issues. More..
