No national consensus sans Nepal Maoists: UML leader Khanal
The United Marxist Leninists’ Chairman Mr. Jhal Nath Khanal has asked the agitating Unified Maoists’ party to refrain from its haughty stances and become a part of national consensus government.
He also maintained that sans the participation of the Unified Maoists’ Party, no national consensus be built in Nepal.
Mr. Khanal who is currently visiting New Delhi at the invitation of the Indian Government, was addressing an interaction program organized by the Council of World Affairs, New Delhi.
Mr. Khanal also said that “National consensus is becoming essential…Nepal’s major political parties should adopt the policy of ‘give and take’ to build consensus.
Mr. Khanal’s remarks were exactly in the same line with what Mr. A. B. Bardhan, the general secretary of Communist Party of India, had told him on Thursday November 5, 2005.
Mr. Bardhan told Khanal (sic), “For the successful conclusion of Nepal’s peace process, I suggest Nepal’s political parties to adopt the policy of give and take.” Annapurna Post, November 6, 2009. His Masters’ Voice!
“The Maoists must forget the formation of a National Government under their leadership”, Khanal told the New Delhi gathering mainly collected by the Indian Foreign Ministry..
Nevertheless, Khanal also maintained that his party was in favor of a government that included the Unified Maoists’ Party.
When asked to comment on the long forgotten issue of Bhutanese Refugee Crisis by one of the participants said Khanal, “We will solve the issue through dialogue with the support and participation of the government of India.” It was any way a planted question.
Mr. K.V. Rajan, India’s former ambassador to Nepal speaking on the occasion hoped that Nepali leadership was equally competent to bring logical end to the peace process and draft the constitution on time.
Rajan maintained that unity was crucial in between all the active political parties to achieve the set targets.
“The institutions such as that of the President, Vice President and Nepal Army should be not be dragged into controversy”, Rajan advised the Nepali leadership.
