Nepal’s Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, say reports, who is facing extreme pressure from the UN agencies and the western diplomats stationed in Kathmandu has kept the promotion recommendation forwarded by the Nepal Army Headquarters on hold for Major General Toran Jung Bahadur Singh.
The cabinet meeting held November 18, 2009, succumbing to extreme pressure exerted by Richard Bennett of the OHCHR (Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights), the US senator Patriak Leahy, and the Military attaché of the US and British Embassy in Kathmandu, once again kept on hold the promotion of General Singh.
General Singh’s proposal for promotion has been opposed mainly by the HR agencies for his alleged involvement in Human Rights abuse and the disappearance of detainees from the Bhairab Nath Battallion during the period of Maoists’ onslaught against the State and the State led forces.
However, the same agencies remain mysteriously quiet over the violence perpetrated by the then terrorist declared Maoists’ party.
Mr. Bennett, who is allegedly fuelling anti-China activities in Nepal, had earlier met the Prime minister and pressurized the government not to elevate the ranks of General Singh.
Similarly, the US senator Leahy had met with the Nepal Prime Minister while he was in New York to attend the UN General Assembly and urged him not to elevate General Singh.
Mr. Leahy, say experts had played significant role in the abolishment of only Hindu monarchy from Nepal.
General Singh has already been freed from the charges of HR abuses and disappearance of detainees by a committee formed by the interim government after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement had been signed between the Seven Party Alliance and the Maoists’ Party.
However, the continuation of alien pressure in the internal matters of Nepal is no less intriguing.
2009-11-19 10:05:32Patrick Leahy is nothing more than a useless bum. People like him think that they are acting in the the interest of human rights and peace. Look where it got us. Two governments that were equally as corrupt as the monarchy and a country in tatters. As long as General Toran Jung Bahaudur Singh was found to not be directly involved in human rights abuses, unlike Bobby Khatri and Major Basnet, then the government should by all means promote him.

we must not listern to others people. This man General Toran Jung must be the next COAS and he must be promoted now. MAKUNE just making some excuse not to promote him for his selfish attitude. If Makune does not promote him then whole army generals must be united to bring the king as kingdom, so that this Makune will be osted and whole 95,000 nepali army force will be saved from PLA intergration. COAS Chatraman Gurung must be stand strongly against the PLA-terrorist and nepal army generals must be united to sacked or coup to oust this Chatramn if he put all PLA into nepal army. All army generals must keep an eyes to chatraman and his activities, chatramn must be stand like Katuwal who were save the whole 95,000 army against the intragetion PLA, we want COAS like katuwal who can fight against the maoist-terrorist. Chatraman looks powerless and always bow down with Makune. rest of all 52 army generals must be united to out this chatraman if he going to put PLA into nepal army. Arrest him and remove him from COAS now.

lot of this has to do with those pseudo-educated bums who enjoy the capitalism of US and romantically support the dictatorial maoists in nepal. senator leahy should know better than fall for this trap. we'll be writing to his office in protest too.
