Koirala-Indian envoy discuss Nepal’s political situation

TGW

The octogenarian Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, the five-time Prime Minister of the country and someone who has passionately served the Indian establishment in his entire political career now feels very much sidelined by the Indian mandarins.

That he preferred Singapore instead of his much preferred destination, New Delhi, for his health treatment this time around does tell so many things unspoken.

However, this is not the end of Koirala’s long friendship with India.

Say experts, it is in this light today’s one hour long meeting between the Indian Ambassador, Rakesh Sood and the Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala should be taken.

The fact is that neither can India ignore Koirala’s “destructive” political acumen in Nepali politics nor can Koirala prefer to side with China ignoring the Indian stake in Nepal.

In the meeting, Ambassador Sood inquired about Koirala’s agreement with the Unified Maoists’ Party Chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal over the likelihood of formation of another government.

Mr. Sood is on record to have said that India preferred continuation of the present government under the command of Madhav Kumar Nepal, November 2, 2009 in Morang district.

In reply, Koirala opined that with the formation of High Level Government Steering Body, the current political crisis would be sorted out. Koirala hoped so.

The meeting has taken place just few days after a powerful Chinese delegation met with Koirala and pledged to extend financial support to Nepal in various sectors including Military Support, during their meetings with the Nepali leadership.

Tu nahi to aur sahi….
