'Indian CoAS to visit Muktinath, China watching Nepal Events'

TGW

The Controversial India Army Chief Deepak Kapoor who is landing Nepal January 19, 2010, apart from being conferred upon with the honorary title of the General of Nepal Army by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has also a different mission in Nepal.

General Kapoor in his four day stay in Nepal will be airlifted to Mukti Nath-sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists.

But, what is so interesting about Muktinath located in the district of Mustang that each and every Indian delegation visiting Nepal have to be there on a mandatory basis?

To recall, an Indian Secretary level delegation that held talks with the Nepali authorities November 2009, pertaining to issues over sharing of water resources in Pokhara was also airlifted by the Nepal Army Chopper to Upper Mustang.

Similarly, April 2009, Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood and some other envoys representing the European Countries also sneaked into the Upper Mustang region.

Reports also claim while Sood was in Mustang, a contingent of Indian Army men led by Lieutenant S.M. Chauhan was already in the region.

Security wise, Mustang adjoins China’s underbelly Tibet and thus is a sensitive place for China.

Sources close to Chinese embassy in Kathmandu say that China was aware of such a trip of the Indian Army Chief.
