Surendra Pandey: Nepal’s weakest Finance Minister ever?

TGW

Nepal’s present Finance Minister, Surendra Pandey is being criticized as the weakest ever finance minister in the entire history of Finance Ministry of the nation.

Surendra Pandey received a sort of bumper prize of taking over the current ministerial portfolio-replacing none other than Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai- the Maoists’ ideologue, after the UML came to power facilitating the twice defeated Madhav Kumar Nepal as the new Premier in the unstable political situation created after President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav took the controversial decision to reinstate the peoples’ elected government sacked Chief of Army Staff Rukmangad Katawal.

By the way, Pandey is a close relative of UML Chairman Jhal Nath Khanal. Reports have it that Khanal and Pandey are married to two sisters from the same family. Thus he was the best candidate for the post, say some of his sharp critics.
Pandey’s luck was consolidated with UML's lucky charm. But Pandey who had studied Economics at the Tribhuvan University proved to be a weaker student that he was then. Analysts believe that the global economic recession, its impact seen in remittance, foreign currency deficit, trade deficit, liquidity crunch and slowing foreign employment was largely contributed by the Minister's lack of knowledge to deal with such financial setbacks. Elevated persons generally lack knowledge and the nation thus pays.
The immediate weaknesses seen in the Minister is his inability to measure the allocation of budget in line with the revenue collection.
Due to which, claim economists, problems surfaced in export, domestic production, financial sector and foreign currency reserve. After assuming the post, Pandey-the duffer- had blindly distributed the budget for foreign tours, relief packages and activist welfare. Now the government finds it hard even to give salaries to the Constituent Assembly members-the white elephants- and the cabinet members.

This news is the weakest news I have ever read. No proper facts whatsoever. First of all Mr. Pandey is no way related to Jhal Nath Khanal. He got the post because he is one of the most capable netas in UML. Journalists today are just a bunch of big fat losers these days. Did you get paid to write this. Did Maoists pay you for this? Or you are a Maoist? If you are one, then you should know that whatever's happened to this country is because of you guys. Stop blaming the administration. You did nothing while you were there. At least Mr. Pandey is not a terrorist. He hasn't done any illegal stuffs. You MOAISTS are just a bunch of sore losers. You are taking this nation to a stone age for sure.

Have pity on Finance Minister Pandey. Why? The problem with the economy rests with Maoists and Finance Minister Baburam, the Maoist ideologue Bhattarai as it's all due to political instability created by Maoists

Baburam brags that he was successful in mobilizing a record revenue. Does he know that he did do so by creating the balance of payments deficit as it was mostly import customs based? We are paying the price of it. He also rasied revenue by through 15% tax on land transaction instead of controlling the land bubble And what about the inflation during Baburam's time? It was another record where the poor were punished as his VAT collection swelled. In real terms The GDP and per capita income growth w ere perhaps the lowest ever in Nepal's post 1980 history . It is not surprising that the worst Finance Ministers have been this Maoist ideologue with close followig by UML's Adhikariand Pandey

We do not criticise to Panday but one thing is sure if Nepali political actors would like to create the New Nepal they should recommended only expert and especialist in any post whether political or administrative sectors. For example 601 CA members in Nepal is not meant for to rule the coungtry but to meant to draft the constitution in stupulate time but our Nepali civil society has not time to raise such kind of sensitive issue. That is why our Nepal is could not improve as slogan of New Nepal declared by so-called Nepali political leaders.

Rubbish - its all becuase of these maos. Don't blame the minister - look at the state of the nation. Baburam started this ridiculous trend when in the ministry and now we are paying the price. And his party does not help any other sectors as well - the industries are all gone why? will you blame the current minister or the maos and their militant clueless unions? Is this journo a mao pitthu-just come off it.
