Fate of Anti-Indians in Nepal

Niraj Aryal

Kathmandu, Niraj Aryal: Believe it or not the gruesome killing of Jamim Shah in a broad day light in a bustling yet tightly guarded street has already sent spine chilling signals among the Nepalese journalists of various shades and colors.

Shah was killed in front of the French Embassy and very close to the Indian Embassy, thus the chill must have well been felt by the foreign dignitaries who serve their countries from around the same quarters since decades and decades, they thus promote relations with this India locked country. But Nepal had never been like this worst…they are the witness.

Shah, the owner of Space Time Network was the first to air Nepali views beyond India launching Nepal’s first satellite channel- Channel Nepal. Perhaps it was the prime reason for him being made the chosen prime target by some interested quarters both within and without.

He was called the agent of Dawood Ibrahim, he was also made the Pakistani ISI agent and what not by the Indian media but he always rejected those allegations tooth and nail till he was alive. Interestingly, though the Indian media never reported that Shah was suspected of having linkages with Indian Intelligence Agencies. “If you are not with us you are with them”- a line followed closely by the Indian ruling elites and the bias Indian media.

Whereas the Nepali media is in the state of mourning here then on the other side of the border- the media in India is in a celebrating mood. Because the sharp shooters who came presumably all the way from India to wipe out Shah had just the intent and that was to kill Shah at any cost for him being ‘anti-Indian’.

The Calcutta Telegraph writes February 9, 2010, “A man who identified himself as Bharat Nepali, a former aide to Chhota Rajan, told a television network that he had planned and executed the murder because of Shah’s “anti-India activities”.

Does this mean that anti-Indians or by extension nationalists are unsafe in their own motherland? Because India’s nationalist figures like Bharat Nepali have already categorized pro-Nepal forces in Nepal as anti-Indians. Is the media in India searching for elusive Indian nationalism among the criminal gangs of the sort of Chotarajan, Bharat Nepali and many more gangs that are thriving in India because of their links with India’s top politicians?

In fact, the ABC FM Radio ran a live interaction program with some journalists, evening February 8, 2010 mainly focusing on the possible link of India and the Indian government in the said murder. A revolutionary journalist- Maoist affiliated  though did not directly gave his clear nod for the Indian institutional involvement but he said India and media in India were always prejudiced as far as taking up Nepali matters were concerned.

“It’s a part of the Indian conspiracy of threatening Nepali Independence,” he spoke in Prachanda line. And Prachanda too had expressed fears that he too could have fate similar to Birendra and Bhandari.

Another Journalist representing the Annapurna Post said in the interaction program it would be premature to pinpoint any one as such but said it has exposed country’s security mechanism. Bhim Rawal must resign, he demanded.  There is the clear link of International criminal gangs in the murder, he also said.

For the road: Whether we belong to the coterie or we are out, we will have finally the same fate. Take care good bye!

Is this Niraj Aryal really a Journalist of Telegraph? I haven't read many Nepali newspapers, but I must say if he is a journalist then the standard of journalists in Nepal is very low.Sorry, but what else can I say about a piece with so many grammatical errors? For example, Niraj wrote "But Nepal had never been like this worst"!! like this WORST? Nop, correct form would be Nepal had never seen anything this bad. There are many many grammatical mistakes and substandard English in this article. Niraj blames Indian media but he himself is anti Indian and very biased. Nepali media in general seems to ignore the well known fact that Mr Sha was an ISI agent and India suspect him to be behind Indian airlines hijack in 1998 (But Nepal never agreed to question him !!!).

Aryal Jiu, First things first. Your hold over the language is pathetic and you have thrown every rule of grammar out of the window while writing this 'journalistic piece'. However, you do seem to make some sense in certain parts, specially when you talk of the Indian media's capacity to tweak facts. In any case, you are very biased yourself and while I resent India's influence over our country, I also resent wannabe journalists violating codes of reportingm by writing such sub-standard articles that are filled more with personal opinions rather than facts. I understand your emotions Aryal Jiu but there is more to writing than just putting words together in random order. Warm regards and Many thanks Rituraj Sapkota

We thankyou for your remarks, your interest in Telegraph and will try to avoid errors if any

Niraj, your Chinese Funding can not take You much further. Jamim Shah, Yusuf Ansari...the fate will be similar to all those who come in the path of Nepal-India Relationship and Goodwill. Better revamp your website and stop all this poisoning of minds. You have NO journalistic credentials and are just a self inflated gasbag who has no contribution to make to free press.

For the Indian, same logic goes for Jamim. He is innocent until India can prove his links with Dawood. It seems RAW is involved. They will not be caught as they might be having a drink with Rakesh Sood in Indian Embassay premise.

and surely acts like making unconstitutional thing happen in Nepal and Madhav who lost in the fair election from every constituency he stood in, the Prime Minister of this country with a muscular Indian hand will surely not help to lessen that paranoia against India here in Nepal my dear educated "Indian" friend.

The amount of anti india propaganda on this website is amazing! No one is willing to consider the possibility that this guy had links to Dawood and was therefore killed by Chhota Rajan gang which has a long running feud with the D company. But this is Nepal where paranoia rules and every fact will be twisted to suggest that the hidden hand of indian state is involved in anything bad that happens in Nepal. It doesn't seem to matter that none of the alligations can be backed with any evidence. Just keep pushing the propaganda and hope that people are gullible enough to take it at face value.

Though I profess non violence strongly, I truly believe in the invidual's right to self defence, an inalienable right given to us by our creator, not by our government. In this context, I support the lawful citizens right to bear arms to protect themselves from the "enemies foreign and domestic". Such rights could be seen in the constitution of few nations like my own, the USA and Switzerland. I would very much love to see such rights in the newly forming Nepalese constituion but that is highly improbable given the sheer ignorance of individualism and libertarian ideology in Nepalese Youths. Unless there is a whole new paradigm shift towards liberty and individualism, there is litte or no hope for your beautiful nation which I so dearly love. My name is Dr. Ron Paul and I am a strong believer of individual freedom and liberty.

Great, Prachandababu. You hide in India for the greater part of your political career, and then claim that you are afraid of being assassinated by Indian agents. If India wanted to bump you off, it could have easily done so many years ago...

Now we don't have the Knig to blame so we now blame India. Them Indians have better things to do you know. We should be blaming the people in command of security. FULLSTOP.

Guys...it is a propaganda being pushed in countries in the Vicinity of India...India aims to have nothing other than a safe neighbourhood...It is unfair to blame India for everything that goes wrong...

hello all! justice should rule the world, then only love, unity, peace & prosperity will come to all people/nations. if india did wrong to nepal in the past or doing at the present that has to be corrected. all nations big or small should live in sovereignty with dignity. i am not siding with any country but with JUSTICE.

niraj, i completely agree with you. the moment i came to know shah (fondly called jammu within the family and close friends) was murdered, the first thing that came to my mind was "it must be the handiwork of RAW". infact extradiction treaty being forwarded by our neighbor is primarily to extradite people like jamim shah who, like you said "If you are not with us you are with them" kind...god save us!

Indians are responsible for all things bad in Nepal. Nepalese should therefore awake in a giant wave, smash all remnants of India's influence, block all routes to and from India and close its airspace to Indian aircraft. Jamim Shah took the first step towards breaking free from India's tyranny by blaming Hritik Roshan for making anti-India statements. It was a lie, but who cares? Indian establishments were burnt and smashed, and Indian agents were killed. It our duty as Nepalis to carry forward Jamim Shah's dram if an India-free Nepal. Ayo Gorkhali, free Nepal from India's clutches!
