Nepal Army Chief remarks on integration a personal opinion: Khanal

TGW

Jhal Nath Khanal, chairman of United Marxist Leninists, the party which is leading the current coalition government expressed his complete unawareness towards the possibility of filing the no confidence motion against the government by the Maoists.

He, however accepted that the likelihood can’t be ruled out.

Mr. Khanal was talking to journalists at the party headquarters, Balkhu, Kathmandu, Saturday, March 13, 2010.

He said, “Yes, it is likely that some forces might have been cooking Khichadi somewhere in the dark corners but I am not aware of the no confidence motion as such.”

Replying to yet another query of journalists, Mr. Khanal said that the remarks of the Chief of Army Staff Mr. Chhatra man Singh Gurung disfavoring en masse assimilation of Maoists’ combatants into the Nepal Army could be Gurung’s “personal remarks and thus has no insignificance”.

“Anyone’s personal remarks will not affect the integration issue”, claimed Khanal.

He also claimed that the UNMIN should immediately provide the details of remaining Militias in the cantonments after the disqualified combatants were filtered out.
Mr. Khanal is taken by his own party colleagues as a UML leader having close "secret" connections with the Maoists.

When Army headquarters have issued a notification with these statements, how can that be a personal remark ? Nepal Army has said it officially, Mr. Khanal. What you are saying now is personal or official ? Can you write your statement in your official party letterhead, stamp it and issue it to public and then say it is personal ? Then the 12 point agreement you all signed is also personal, right ? You think all nepalese all fools ?
