Vedic Sanatan Dharma of Nepal: Mother of all religion
Nepal’s foreign and defense policies were founded by the Great King, Prithvi Narayan Shah (1769-1775), with whom we move into the modern period of Nepal’s history. He was the ninth generation descendant of Drabvya Shah (1559- 1570). But it is also necessary to understand that Vedic Sanatana Dharma has its roots in Nepal in terms of creation, preservation, and destruction.
Nepal has for ages been an independent state. It is a landlocked, nuclear locked, has one of the oldest literatures in the world, but is also a least developed country, that is situated between two big neighbors - China and India.
The history of Monarchy begins from the Vedic age. The word Veda means light or knowledge. Vedas contain humanitarian knowledge. There are many paths of Vedas. If we follow them we can have Darashan (vision) of God. Maharishi Veda Byasa Guru was a Nepali who was the divider, writer, and compiler of the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Brahman Granth, Gita, and Maha Bharat.
Veda Byasa Cave (Gufa) still exists at Damauli near Pokhara of Nepal. Yoga Vashista Guru taught and trained Bhagwan Ram at Deughat of Chitwan district of Nepal before the latter married Sita, daughter of Brahmagyani King Janak. All our sages and seers have mentioned the role of King in all sacred books. Powerful King Indra and Baruna are also mentioned in the Rig Veda.
Our national flag—which comprises two triangles with the sun and the moon and is different from the flags of countries of the world—belongs to the Rig Veda. The triangle means creator, preserver, and destroyer (Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwor). The sun and the moon signify no beginning and no ending. It means, Nepal will survive forever and there is no ending.
Unfortunately, we follow only books by foreign writers that have distorted our history and literatures, rendering them very distant from the facts of Nepal. Time has come to demonstrate our indigenous religion, philosophy, and culture to the world so that the identity of Nepal can be linked up from the golden age to the present for the security of Nepal.
Vedas are the oldest scripture in the world, which contain humanitarian knowledge. There are four parts of Vedas. In the beginning, there was no religion except the Sanatan Dharma. The word Sanatan means from the beginning and the word Dharma means humanitarian knowledge. Sanatan Dharma has no beginning in time but other religions have dates (Buddhism-567 B.C.; Jainism- 546 BC. Christianity- 4 B.C.; Confucianism- 551 B.C.; Taoism- 604 BC, Zoroastrianism- 6th century; Islam- 570 A.D.; Sikhism-1469-1538; Bahai-19 th century).
The gist of the Vedas are: “The Whole world is a family” (Vashudhaiva Kutumbakum), “No ending and no beginning of the universe”, and “Aham Brahman Ashmi” (I am Brahman). Facts speak for themselves that all religions were born under the umbrella of Vedic Sanatan Dharma. But in India, Sanatan Dharma became known as Hindu Dharma or Hinduism, while Buddhist people still practice Buddhist Dharma. In Nepal also, King Mahendra, strategically incorporated Hindu religion in the 1962 constitution of Nepal, the same continued in the constitution of 1990. Hence, Nepal became the only one Hindu State and there is only one Hindu King in the world. Basically, all religions of the world were born from Vedic Sanatan Dharma of Nepal.
There is no continuous road map history of Nepal. I think we can understand an unbroken history of Nepal through the period of Maharishi Veda Byasa Guru, Ne Muni, Parashar, Raja Janak, Sita, Buddha, and others, if we research thoroughly. However, the Gopala Bansha ruled 7213 years 8th months and Kirati Kings ruled 6000 years. By that time, Nepal’s eastern border extended from Kashmir to Kamarup, and its Northern border was Tibet and the southern side of Manasarobar, Vindhyachal was also in Nepal. The Lichchhavi rule spanned over a period of about 630 years. The last ruler was Jayakamadeva. Malla Kings ruled about 700 years and Shah Dynasty ruled Nepal since 1769. Basically, the history of Jumla civilization has not been clearly researched and explained. According to our literatures and sociologists, the history of rulers of Karnali Pradesh of Nepal is older than the Gopala, Kirata, and Lichhavi Bansa. Besides, the genesis of first human development was from this location as the fish incarnation (Matsya Autar), tortoise (kurma), Baraha, half man-half lion (Narasimha), small man (Bavana), Parashu Ram, Ram, Krishna, and Buddha. After Bavana incarnation or full human being, people scattered to different parts of the world like China, Mongolia, Egypt, Iraq, Europe, Africa, America, Australia, and other parts of the world. Hence Nepalis are Nepalis in Nepal not from other parts of the world. Perhaps, they might have gone for certain time and period as we go now to America, Europe, and other parts of the world to return.
The documented history of Nepal begins with the Changu Narayan temple inscription of King Manadeva I (464-505 A.D.) of the Lichchhavi dynasty. Another important Lichchhavi King was Anshuverma who opened trade routes to Tibet. One of his daughters, Bhrikuti, who was married to Tibetan ruler Tsrong-tsong Gompo, was instrumental in spreading the Gospel of the Buddha in Tibet and China. Anshuverma has been referred to as a man of many talents in the accounts of the Chinese traveler Huen Tsang, who had visited India in the 7th century A.D. Narendradeva I another Lichchhavi King, initiated friendly relations with China and his successors laid the foundations of friendship with India by entering into matrimonial alliances with Indian royal families.
The Malla period came after the fall of the Lichchhavis. They founded the city of Kantipur (later Kathmandu). Early Malla rule started with Ari Malla in the 12th century and over the next two centuries grew into a large empire before disintegrating into smaller states, which later became known as the Baisis (i.e. the twenty-two states). This more or less coincided with the emergence of the Chaubisis (i.e. twenty-four states). Jayasthiti Malla, who commenced the later Malla period in Kathmandu Valley, reigned towards the end of the 14th century, Yaksha Malla, the grandson of Jayasthiti Malla, ruled Kathmandu Valley until almost the end of the 15th century. After his demise, the Valley was divided into three independent Valley kingdoms – Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan – in about 1484 A.D. This division led the Malla rulers into deadly wars for territorial and commercial gains. As mutually excessive indulgence, the wars gradually weakened them and by the time of King Prithvi Narayan Shah’s invasion of the Valley, they had by themselves reached the brink of political end. The last rulers were Jaya Prakash Malla, Tej Narsingh Malla, and Ranjit Malla of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur respectively.

Nice article. The problems is the world and many Nepalis alike believe that Hinduism being a product of India. The same way Buddha is considered Indian. Our glorious hindu heritage ended as soon the British set foot in India. After that, it was the British who wrote the history and the world believed. They demarcated geographical boundaries and the world accepted it. The indians were all too happy to get big geographical areas from the British. In their happiness, they accepted secularism further obliterating our hindu heritage. And now Nepal being declared secular will further make things worse. If only we have more researchers i am sure we would come up with more evidence Nepal being the cradle of knowledge. Ours is indeed a very holdy place. And look now what we have done of it. It is such a shame. Let us pray that another holy person if born in this holy land of ours who will cure the world of evil, as was done in the past. A holy man of knowledge who can teach this world. like the way it was done in the past.
The author's focus on Vedavyasa's nationality as Nepali is commendable.

The Countries beyond our continent regard Nepal as an Indian state. It is also due to the fact that we have open border with India. With the Google maps displaying Birthplace of Buddha in the Indian territory, Nepal is loosing its existence day by day. With the country declared Secularism,Nepal has loosen its identity yet again.People are fed up with the growing instability in the country that some people have started considering either of the two big neighbouring countries to take over Nepal.Country has lost its educated manpower considering that many have started settling abroad.Democracy is being misused and the growing political turbulence is giving rise to armed outfits in the Terai.Every political wing has got an opportunity to rule this country with a failed result. The support that these political wings are getting is the main cause of this mishap.Only when these youths realize the time of setting their vision towards the Objective of the real people in Nepal only can the country be directed to the level we have been dreaming of..
