Kathmandu: The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have renewed a Cooperation Agreement today.
So reads a statement issued by the SAARC Head Quarters based in Kathmandu dated o5 June, 2018.
The Agreement was signed by the Secretary General of SAARC, His Excellency Mr. Amjad Hussain B. Sial, and Regional Director, UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (UNICEF ROSA), Ms.
Jean Gough, at a modest ceremony held at the SAARC Secretariat today, the statement adds.
The Cooperation Agreement focuses on the development, protection and participation of children, and raising the awareness, understanding and action for children, through formulating frameworks, policies and programmes, and various other initiatives.
SAARC and UNICEF ROSA enjoy excellent collaboration, and work together on issues related to children, specifically focusing on education, early childhood development, maternal and adolescent nutrition, as well as on issues relating to child marriage, development of children and youth, gender equality, violence against children and health issues in South Asia, the statement concludes.
