Nepal as a nation-state has now proven reasons to take pride in that Nepal born Gorkha Soldiers have been bestowed with the onerous task of shielding the entire area and the Hotel in Singapore, The Shangri-La wherein the US President Donald Trump and the North Korean ruler, Kim Jong-Un will meet each other in order to bring in permanent peace in the troubled Korean peninsula.
The South Korean President made a conciliatory gesture to which the North Korean leader reciprocated last month which has facilitated the Trump-Un meet to materialize in Singapore, June 12, 2018, reports the Reuters news agency.
Even if advanced weaponry were available in the world for the possible use in the battle field, however, the Gorkha soldiers, mostly from the Gorkha district in Nepal, the brave soldiers from Nepal prefer their traditional curved dazzling Knife, called the KHUKURI, which must draw blood in the battle field every time it is unsheathed.
The general belief in the Gorkha community is that the Khukuri when in action demands fresh blood.
The Gorkha soldiers worship Goddess Kali.
The Gorkha militias could be seen now serving for the United Kingdom, the Indian and the home country army. Besides these, the Gorkhas also serve in the Armies of Singapore and Brunei.
The Palace of the Sultan of Brunei is, we have been told, heavily guarded by Gorkha soldiers.
Some even say that the Brunei Sultan doesn’t trust others.
The Gorkhalis have already exhibited their valor and courage during the first and the second world wars.
According to the website run by the Singapore Police takes the Gokha group as “tough, vigilant and steadfast” that operates “across the spectrum of paramilitary operations to help safeguard Singapore.
President Trump and Kim Jong-Un though will have their own security men with them, however, the entire security of the Hotel and the area shall be under the total control of the Gorkha soldiers, reports the Reuter.
To recall, the Shangri-La hotel in Singapore just hosted the meet of the Indian PM Narendra Modi and US defense secretary James Mattis which was largely guarded by the brave Gorkhalis.
“President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will be protected by men from one of the fiercest warrior tribes in the world-the Gorkhas of Nepal”, so writes Reuters.
The US and the NK leaders are tentatively scheduled to meet at 9 am (Singapore time) on 12 June, according to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who said that planning for the historic summit continues.
